Cranfield Defence and Security
Cranfield Defence and Security is arranged into the following three academic departments to best meet the needs of the domestic and international defence and security sectors. Each academic department comprises of a number of specialist research groups covering a wide-range of defence and security related subjects. COTEC is a Cost Centre within the Department of Engineering and Applied Science.
The Department of Engineering and Applied Science is the focus for all science and engineering activity at The Defence Academy of The United Kingdom. We bring together expertise in a diverse, yet comprehensive, range of technologies to provide education, research and consultancy advice to the defence and security sectors.
We run a number of unique Masters courses: Explosive Ordnance Engineering, Forensic Engineering and Science, Gun System Design, Guided Weapons, Military Airworthiness, Forensic Computing and Military Vehicle Technology. We also deliver a large number of specialist short courses in related fields. Some of these are delivered at our campus at Shrivenham, but we also travel all over the world delivering bespoke courses to defence and security partners in other countries.
All of this teaching activity is underpinned by a vibrant research programme, much of which is funded by the MOD, the research councils and industry. We also play a key part as advisers to MOD and to the defence and security industries, participating in most major UK programmes.
